Botulinum Toxin

Treatment with Botulinum Toxin provides a safe, effective, and non-invasive way to reduce the symptoms associated with clenching and grinding of the teeth. This is in addition to the more familiar esthetic benefits of improving the appearance of wrinkles.

What is Botulinum Toxin?

Botulinum Toxin is a prescription medicine that can be injected into affected areas to reduce the activity of targeted muscles. There are several brands currently available on the market, which includes Botox and Xeomin. As derived from a toxin produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, these medications work by inhibiting muscle contractions which are responsible for parafunctional habits, such as clenching and grinding, as well as for wrinkles and furrows. This latter benefit gives the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance.

How is Treatment With Botulinum Toxin Provided?

Strategically placed Botulinum Toxin injections provide relief from soreness, muscle aches, and headaches associated with grinding and clenching, and can help to protect the teeth from excessive forces over time.

Botulinum Toxin can also produce a noticeable reduction in the appearance of frown lines, horizontal lines on the forehead, and Crow's feet around the eyes.

Since Botulinum Toxin is delivered to targeted areas via a series of small injections using micro-fine needles, the discomfort of this in-office procedure is minimal and involves zero downtime.

With Botulinum Toxin, clients typically see noticeable results that can last up to three to six months. And, by coming in for periodic treatment, it is possible to maintain esthetically pleasing effects and greater comfort over time.

Dr. Tran is certified by the American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE) in the administration of Botulinum Toxin.
